Free drop in Art workshop Monday 14th to Sunday 20th June

From Monday 14th to Sunday 20th June 2010, Cardiff-based Community Artists, Pippin's Designs will be running a free drop-in Art Workshop for the public in Queens Arcade.  Members of the public are encouraged to join in and pick up a brush for a few minutes or even an hour, but under 7's must be accompanied at all times by an adult. 

The workshop will be based right in the heart of the Centre by the Post Office.  When the workshop finishes the artwork will be on display in the former Faith unit on level one, before going on display at the Senedd in the autumn.  After that it will be donated to Woodlands School in Ely and Erw’r Delyn School in Penarth.

Run by husband and wife team, Sally and Jon Phillips, Pippin's Designs is a Not for Profit Organisation, working on a huge variety of Public Art and Art Therapy Projects all across Wales, predominantly with children dealing with disabilities, special learning needs or long term illness.

Indeed Pippin’s Designs has already held a hugely successful workshop at the Centre and the team hopes to repeat the experience this time.  Once again they will be asking the public artists to help paint Cardiff's famous landmarks, plus murals of Welsh sporting, acting and musical heroes.

In 2005, the team completed a mural at Ty Hafan, the Children's Hospice for Wales, thanks to the generosity of shoppers at Queens Arcade giving donations during the days Pippin’s was on site. These were also a great way for everyone to meet people that they work with, such as teachers, nurses, social workers, etc.

Pippin’s also runs an award-winning project at The Liberty Stadium in Swansea where children come to paint the players for display around the miles of walls, which get seen by tens of thousands of visitors to the stadium.  Sally and Jon are proud to have run Community Art Projects with the Welsh Rugby and Football Teams, Chelsea and Manchester Utd and stars such as Katherine Jenkins and the Stereophonics!

Indeed Pippin’s Designs was recently awarded the UK Arts and Business Community Award in recognition of their work, beating the internationally renowned British Museum's outreach programme and the Hay Festival.

Pippin’s Design funds its important Art Therapy work with children in a variety of ways including commercial work, such as public art for businesses, commissions for people's homes and local authority work in mainstream schools.
