Queens Arcade one of Cardiff’s premier shopping centres is again supporting George Thomas Hospice Care in its Light Up a Life Appeal that runs from early November to the New Year. This will be the fifth year that Queens Arcade will have supported the Appeal, that is so important to the fundraising effort of the local hospice, the major provider of specialist community based palliative care in Cardiff

In allowing the giant Christmas Tree and Book of Remembrance in its premises Queens Arcade provides a major focal point for the Appeal which helps the hospice raise the £1.3 million it needs to provide its service for those suffering from Cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Those supporting the Appeal submit messages to the Book of Remembrance, which also as an internet version, to remember their loved ones who have died or who are ill and celebrate their lives

Margaret Pritchard, Chief Executive of George Thomas Hospice Care, is "Both delighted with and extremely grateful for the support of Queens Arcade and the prominent promotion and great help it gives to the Light Up a Life Appeal."

She wants the 2009 Appeal being in the 25th Anniversary year of the local hospice "to be the most successful yet" so that it can "continue with the vital support it offers patients and their families at a very difficult and sensitive time in their lives."

Nick Beckett, General Manager Queens Arcade said, "Once again we are delighted to be hosting the George Thomas Hospice Care appeal in the lead up to Christmas.  The Hospice provides vital care and support for local families and we feel it is important to do whatever we can to assist them in this worthwhile cause."

With the demand for the care and support offered by the hospice continually growing Margaret says "It is even more important that we can provide a service that is highly professional and in its multi-disciplinary approach meeting the ever growing and more complex needs of palliative care patients and their families."

All involved with George Thomas Hospice Care are most grateful for the invaluable support of the management, staff and patrons of Queens Arcade for their help with the Light Up a Life Appeal.
