PGA golfer Phil Price teed off Tenovus Charity's Wii Golf Challenge at Queens Arcade on Tuesday 9th March.

PGA golfer Phil Price ‘teed off’ Tenovus and Queens Arcade’s Charity Wii Golf Challenge and threw down the gauntlet to Cardiff’s golfers and golf fans.

Phil visited the Centre in between tournaments to help launch the Charity’s golf-related fundraising efforts for 2010.  Tenovus is the charity partner for Ryder Cup Wales and has also been chosen by Queens Arcade as its nominated charity for 2010.

The first event on the Queens Arcade Tenovus calendar is the Wii Golf Challenge due to take place on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th at Queens Arcade.  For a donation, keen amateur golfers and their charitable friends can take part in a virtual ‘Closest to the Pin’ competition and see whether they can beat the professional golfer at his own game!

Centre Director Nick Beckett says, “We were really excited host Phil at the Centre as he helped us launch Tenovus’ Wii Golf Challenge.  We are very grateful that he was able to pop in to give us all a hand in between his PGA tournament commitments and we wish him every success this year.

“We are also pleased to be able to announce that our nominated charity for 2010 is Tenovus.  The work the charity does in supporting cancer patients close to their homes in the heart of the community is vital here in Wales.  We are looking forward to working with them throughout the year to ensure as much money as possible is raised towards their important mission.”

Claudia McVie of Tenovus said, “We are really excited that Phil has been able to join us to launch our Charity Wii Golf Challenge and help us raise much-needed funds for our essential cancer service.  We are very grateful that he has agreed to do this as Wii Golf is nothing like ‘real’ golf and there’s a very real chance he could be easily beaten by keen Wii-golfers; but he is a good sport and it is all in support of a great cause.

“We will also be asking the public to give us further help by digging deep for our raffle – our top prize is a pair of VIP tickets for The 2010 Ryder Cup and we are sure the generous shoppers of Cardiff and Queens Arcade will be out in force to show their support.”
